Service

"Do whatever he tells you" appears in John 2:5

Service is a fundamental aspect of Catholic men's ministry, as it embodies the Christian call to love and support one another. Engaging in service helps men to practice the teachings of Jesus, particularly the call to love their neighbors. By participating in service projects—whether it's helping the poor, volunteering at local shelters, or assisting parish initiatives—men can live out their faith in action. This hands-on commitment reinforces the message that faith should extend beyond personal devotion and into communal involvement.

Service also fosters accountability and fellowship among participants. Men in ministry can build relationships through shared experiences in service, encouraging one another while working towards common goals. This sense of brotherhood is crucial for personal growth and spiritual development. It creates an environment where men feel supported and challenged to step out of their comfort zones, leading to both individual and collective transformation.

Moreover, service in the context of a Catholic men's ministry serves as a powerful witness to others. By actively engaging in service, men can model Christ-like behavior, inspiring others in their community to participate in acts of kindness and compassion. This visibility can help to attract other men to the ministry, fostering a culture of service that extends beyond the church and into the wider community.

examples of Service

  • Visiting Sick

For more than a year, the men of the Forge have been bringing Holy Communion to residents of the Center of Extended Care in Amherst (CECA). These weekly visits instill faith and hope in those recovering from long term illness.

  • Parish clean-ups

Seasonal clean ups in and around church/parish/center (yard work, painting, etc) make our place of worship truly beautiful and enjoyable.

  • Community meals

Preparing meals for the parish community and beyond is a way for the men of St. Brigid to provide real sustenance. Examples of such service include pancake breakfast on Palm Sunday, soup on Fridays during Lent, or gift baskets for needy.
